These tips apply to children and adults alike. The first important thing is to make sure you get lots of sleep every night. Establish a routine whereby you go to bed at the same time each night, and wake up at the same time every morning. This is especially important for children who sleepwalk.

When you go to bed you must be calm and relaxed. Take a hot bath or read a good book. Don’t drink or eat before going to sleep – it is not true that a bedtime snack will help you sleep better.

You can then set your alarm to wake before he/she starts sleepwalking and prevent an episode with gentle reassurances that will put the child back to sleep.

When self-help does not help, you will need to explore other options. Hypnosis is widely acclaimed as being an effective treatment for sleepwalking and is easy to use with a convenient MP3 download. The majority of people who sleepwalk do not cause harm to themselves or others, but if there is an underlying psychological disorder causing the sleepwalking, a sleep specialist should be contacted.
